Llandaff North Summer Festival 25-28 June 2015

Here are the details from the flyer on the notice board at Hailey Park…

Saturday 27 June, Summer Fair & Fun Dog Show

Venue: Hailey Park, next to Radyr Road car park. Time: 11-4.30pm

It’s that time of year again, festival time in Llandaff North, including the first ever bake-off, in the marquee in the main car park. Enter you own bake for free between 10.30 and 11am. Judge any 4 servings for £2 per plate between 11.30 and 12.30 then vote for ‘Most delicious bake’, ‘Cutest cupcake’ and ’12s & under’. The winners will be announced at 1pm. There’ll be rosettes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.

Lots of other things to do for everyone: stalls, BBQ, licensed mini-bar, fun dog show, tug of war, rugby, bouncy castle, fun & games for children, and more.

The fun dog show is open to all dogs (starts 1.15). Classes include junior handler (children 16 and under), best pup (12 months and under), best rescue, golden oldie, best sausage catcher (back by popular demand!) and more. Six rosettes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd and there are prizes for the winning dogs.

Volunteers are still needed on the day to help out for all or part of the time (including setup and tidy up) and to deliver flyers throughout the neighbourhood.

Sunday 28 June, Summer Bug Ball

Meet: Radyr Road car park, near the notice board at 2pm .

Time to go out into the outdoors and discover some of the bird, plant and insect life this summer in Hailey Park’s Meadow. We’ll be going out with sweep nets to see what bugs we may find. Children are welcome as long as they’re accompanied by an adult. So let’s get out there and go on a bug hunt and see who you’d like to invite to the Summer Bug Ball. Also go to http://bit.ly/1tCdMt3 for some great ideas to do on your own.

Also in the festival, the 2nd Llandaff Scouts have a picture archive of Llandaff North and are willing to get involved in the History of Llandaff North exhibition. Christchurch is willing to host the exhibition. Andy photographs or other memories gratefully accepted.

Time for a street party! Save the date: 7 June 2015

Last year, Clarbeston Rd joined in The Big Lunch. The date for this year’s event is Sunday 7th June 2015.

The Big Lunch is run by the Eden Project and funded by the Big Lottery and, since starting in 2009, thousands of Big Lunches have taken place across Wales and the rest of the UK.

This June millions of people will come together for The Big Lunch, the UK’s annual get together for neighbours.  It’s a simple idea to get as many people as possible across the UK to come together in their shared spaces in a simple act of community, friendship and fun.

You’re invited by the all-Wales organiser Gwion Thorpe to hold one in your street or area and bring your local community together: “If everyone brings a dish or some decorations and activities, you have yourself a Big Lunch! ”

To find out more, to get a Big Lunch Pack or to register your interest, go to www.thebiglunch.com or call 0845 850 8181.
